Remove Ads from Yahoo Messenger

Click on START >> RUN >> type in: REGEDIT >> click OK
go to: \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\Locale\
double click on the Enable Messenger Ad Dword Value & change the Value Data field from 1 (enabled) to 0 (disabled)
now go to: \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\YUrl\
inside the YUrl key, create these new String Values:
Change Room Banner
Chat Adurl
Conf Adurl
Messenger Ad
Webcam Upload Ad
Webcam Viewer Ad
Webcam Viewer Ad Big
Webcam Viewer Ad Medium
Y Content
if you don’t know how to create them, you just need to right click (inside the key), select NEW >> String Value
double click on ALL the new String Values & on each Value Data field, type in: *
you’ll now have something like this:
you can close the registry editor now.
for those who don’t want to edit their registry manually..
copy-paste this is notepad:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\pager\Locale]“Enable Messenger Ad”=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\YUrl]“Messenger Ad”=”*”“Webcam Upload Ad”=”*”“Webcam Viewer Ad”=”*”“Webcam Viewer Ad Big”=”*”“Webcam Viewer Ad Medium”=”*”“Change Room Banner”=”*”“Conf Adurl”=”*”“Chat Adurl”=”*”“Y Content”=”*”
then save the file as removeYMads.reg (or whateverYouWant.reg). just make sure the extension is .reg
double-click on the file & click YES when windows asks you if you want to import the file to registry (or somethin like that. can’t recall the exact message. XD).
for the last step, explore the path you installed ym into & open the Cache folder. it’s usually: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache
inside the cache folder, create a new xml document & name it urls.xml
don’t know how to make one? the easiest would be to: RIGHT CLICK >> select New >> Text Document. then rename the newly created whatever.txt to urls.xml. make sure you change the TXT extension to XML.
for the final step, right click on your newly created urls.xml >> then select PROPERTIES. on the properties box, put a check on the Read-only attribute. something like this:
now we’re all set. you can close everything now & launch your yahoo messenger. your ym is now ad-free.
AGAIN, do NOT do this if you plan on using the YAHOO! CHAT feature. chat WILL NOT WORK if you disable the ads.
now just disable the unwanted/unneccessary stuff (yahoo insider, search bar, voice bar, plugins, etc) to streamline your ym:

Word2007 and EndNote add-in

CWYW 43: The EndNote 5 through X tools are not showing up in the Add-Ins tab of Word 2007. How can I add them?
Note: If you are using Endnote X1, use the steps here.Answer: Based on our testing, EndNote versions 5 through X should load and function properly if the correct addin files are loaded in Word's startup folder.
To manually add the EndNote addin files to Word's startup folder, follow these instructions:
Within Microsoft Word 2007 go to the Office icon in the upper left, and click "Word Options" at the bottom of this window.
Click on "Trust Center" on the left hand side, then on the "Trust Center Settings..." button at the bottom-right.
Click the Trusted Locations menu to the left, then highlight the "Word 2007 default location: StartUp" item in the list.
Note the path to the Microsoft Word Startup folder. The path should show up below the Trusted Locations items. The default path in Windows XP is: C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup.On Windows Vista, the default path is:C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP.
Close Word and Outlook if running.
Launch Windows Explorer and locate your EndNote folder. The default installation path is “C:\Program Files\EndNote”. (Alternately, you can download the required files in a zip folder below)
There are two files in this folder you need to copy:
EndNote
Files (click to download)
X
EN10CWYW.dotEN10Cwyw.WordXP.wll
9
EN9CWYW.dotEN9Cwyw.WordXP.wll
8
EN8CWYW.dotEN8Cwyw.WordXP.wll
7
EN7CWYW.dotEN7Cwyw.WordXP.wll
6
EN6CWYW.dotEN6Cwyw.wll
5
EndNote5.Cwyw.dotEndNote5.Cwyw.wll
If you do not see the .wll and .dot file extensions, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options / View tab. Uncheck the box that reads “Hide file extensions for known file types” and click OK. If you are using Windows Vista and do not see Tools on the menu bar click on 'Organize' in the upper left corner of the window, click on Layout and select Menu Bar.
Locate the Word Startup folder and paste these two files into this folder. If you cannot find the specified folder, your Windows preferences may be set to hide the folder (Appplication Data and AppData are set to be hidden folders by default). In Windows Explorer go to Tools / Folder Options / View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Launch Microsoft Word. The EndNote toolbar should now show up in the Add-Ins tab of the Word 2007 ribbon.
Before you use the tools for the first time, close Word, then open EndNote and an EndNote library, then re-open Word and click on one of the EndNote tools. The programs must only be opened in this order the first time you use the tools so that Windows will be configured correctly.

Vista Internet connection sharing

Step 1: In Vista, before doing this you should enable Sharing and Discovery. You can do that by going to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center. Under the section ‘Sharing and Discovery, enable Network discovery, File Sharing, Public folder sharing and others if you want to.
Step 2: If your LAN card that is connecting to another computer is installed, it will be shown under Control Panel -> Network Connections.
Step 3: Right click that local area connection and click properties.
Step 4: Under the tab ‘Networking’, click the properties Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
Step 5: Click the radio button to ‘Use the following IP’ and give an IP address (For example, IP address: 192.168.0.1 and Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0)
Step 6: Don’t give any other information, Click Ok and close everything.
Step 7: In computer B, make sure you enable the LAN card which is used to connect to computer ‘A’. Here you need not give any IP information as Computer ‘A’ will assign an IP address dynamically. If it’s not working make sure there are no IP assigned and change the properties to ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’.
Step 8: Test the connection by pinging. (You can do this by typing ping 192.168.0.1 or whichever is Compter ‘A’s IP in the comand prompt)
Sharing the Internet connection of computer ‘A’ with computer ‘B’:

Right click LAN card which is connected to Internet under Control Panel -> Network Connections and click ‘Sharing’ tab and enable both the options to share Internet. (Note: Unless there is another enabled LAN setting you will not be able to see the shared tab under properties)
Click Ok and close. This option is given by the Windows OS known as ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).
